Planning Your Abbotsford Wedding: A Photographer's Guide

A beautiful wedding gallery rarely happens by accident. The most effortless-looking images are almost always the result of a thoughtful plan — one that leaves room for light, emotion, and the small unscripted moments in between. After more than a decade photographing weddings across British Columbia, here are the things we wish every couple knew while planning.

Build your timeline around the light

The single biggest factor in how your photos look isn't the venue or the dress — it's light. In the Fraser Valley, the hour before sunset casts a soft, golden glow that flatters every skin tone and turns an ordinary field into something cinematic. When you build your day's schedule, work backwards from sunset and protect 20–30 minutes for couple portraits in that window. Your future self will thank you.

Consider a first look

A first look — a private moment where you see each other before the ceremony — does two wonderful things. It calms the nerves, and it frees up the timeline so you can actually enjoy your cocktail hour instead of disappearing for portraits. It's entirely optional and deeply personal, but for many of our couples it becomes the most emotional part of the day.

Give the details room to breathe

Rings, invitations, heirloom jewellery, the bouquet — these details tell the story of your taste and the people who helped bring the day together. Gather them in one place for your photographer in the morning so nothing is missed in the rush.

Leave space to be present

The best photographs come from real feeling, not posing. Pad your timeline so you're never sprinting between moments. A relaxed couple, a little breathing room, and trust in your team — that's the recipe for images that still move you decades from now.
